What is the fucking point of getting/holding down a job when you want shifts that only cater to your preferences or promising somebody you can do those shifts when in the end you just can't/don't/won't show up? Not only is it oh-so-inconvenient for the other co-workers that actually show up for their shifts, at that on time, have to come and cover your ass because, maybe, you're recuperating from a hard night's partying but it doesn't reflect a good light from you thus making it more difficult for YOU to get certain days off for when you really need it.
I mean yes, personal problems are gonna get in our way in some way or another at some point in time, but if it's some sort of a long-term problem that continues to throw everybody else's work schedules off to the point nobody knows if they're supposed to be working/off on a certain day then you just as well better take a temporary leave and perhaps get help as opposed to keep leading on. It'll do us better in the long run.
I(and a few others) have found this has been an ongoing problem from my section at work. So much a problem as I have to come in during MY weekend off to fill in for someone who was "sick". Now mind you, I don't have a problem with having to come in to work because most of the time I'm usually doing nothing(apart from homework and studying) and Lawton's has been one of the best places I've worked at thus far. It's the people who are taking advantage of calling in sick(frequently) that are self-induced half the time and not realize that this forces the people who were entitled to their days off to cover them. Yet when others ask of them to fill in a shift or two for them, they're quick enough as to turn them down because of other plans they have in store. So much for being flexible during the interview guys...
This is somewhat of a brief rant(which I hopefully try to keep it brief) I wanted to get off my chest or maybe it's just me, being Florence, therefore being a crazy crooked old lady or something. I'm practically a full-time MUN student with a part-time job that demands at least 15-20 hrs a week on average. It can be overwhelming at times but it's not impossible. Hell, there's people who have more on their plates than I do so who am I to complain about?
Really what I'm trying to say is: if you can't adapt to the expectations of a job or even be responsible, then don't bother with getting one until you figure some things out and get help with whatever problems you're having that prevents you from keeping/getting a job...or something.
